An Occupational Therapist (OT) is a very diverse role, and we often have parents who say they have no idea what we do or why they were referred to an OT as "occupation" typically means "job". The term 'occupation' is used to describe all the everyday things we do in our life roles, but also the things we do to be who we are, the things we do to create a meaningful life and to engage with wider society and culture.
Our OTs work closely with our clients and their families. Our OTs provide treatment to help kids learn and develop. Areas which is often targeted include:

Social work is a practice-based profession and an academic discipline that promotes social change and development, social cohesion, and the empowerment and liberation of people. Principles of social justice, human rights, collective responsibility and respect for diversities are central to social work. Underpinned by theories of social work, social sciences, humanities and indigenous knowledge, social work engages people and structures to address life challenges and enhance wellbeing.
Our Social workers work with individuals, families, groups and communities in the context of their physical, social and cultural environments, their past and current experiences, and their cultural and belief systems.
In all contexts, social workers maintain a dual focus on both assisting with and improving human wellbeing and identifying and addressing any external issues (known as system or structural issues) that may impact on wellbeing or may create inequality, injustice and discrimination.
Social workers may undertake roles in casework, counselling, advocacy, community engagement and development and social action to address issues at both the personal and social level. Social workers also work in areas such as policy development, education and research particularly around issues of social justice, disadvantage and the marginalisation of people in their communities or in society.

At The Therapy Room, we treat even the smallest members of the family! Early intervention is key. Providing therapy and intervention for your children as early as possible allows your child to develop the skills required to engage in all the fun activities children love. We believe that family-centred practice is an essential part of our work with our paediatric clients. We provide assessment and ongoing intervention for your children.
Our clinics here at The Therapy Room also provide services to the adult population. Disabilities don't just go away, so we provide intervention for all ages. Sometimes disabilities occur in adulthood, so we are here to help you navigate through your change and support you in getting back to everything you enjoy doing. We provide ongoing intervention and short block therapy to target your goals.
The NDIS world goes much further than just ongoing therapy. Here at The Therapy Room, we also offer services including but not limited to equipment prescriptions, functional capacity assessment (FCA) reports, supported independent living (SIL) reports, specialist disability accommodation (SDA) reports and minor home modifications.
The Therapy Room multidisciplinary team have a range of staff who are able to provide services to Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA) veterans or entitled persons. DVA Health Cards (Gold and White) are accepted as payment upon a GP referral.
Sometimes there are obstacles to coming into the clinic, but help is still available. Talk to your clinician to see if Telehealth is an option for you.
